Under federal law, "franchising authorities" (in Washington State, these are cities and counties) can require cable television companies to negotiate a franchise (in other words, a contract) to provide cable TV service within a municipality. The City of Enumclaw currently has 1 non-exclusive franchise with Comcast Cable. Download the franchise document (PDF) for more information.
The city's Media Services division negotiates, monitors, and enforces the rules set forth in the franchise. The city collects a franchise fee of 5% of gross revenues from the Comcast for their use of the city's rights-of-way. Approximately $130,000 in franchise fees for around 3,000 subscribers was collected in 2009 and deposited into the city's General Fund.
Media Services also assists cable subscribers in resolving complaints and answering questions regarding their cable service. If you are a Comcast cable TV customer in the City of Enumclaw and have an issue that you are unable to resolve directly with Comcast, please feel free to contact Media Services at 360-615-5609.
