Mayor’s Message for December 2020

Posted on November 30, 2020 at 2:18 PM by Jan Molinaro

It has been since April 1 since I last posted a Mayor’s Message. Basically right after the state shut down for COVID. So much has happened that we have experienced for the last 7 plus months that this message will not relive it. Rather let us begin to look towards the months ahead. As spikes in positive COVID cases begin to appear, (yes even in Enumclaw) it is evident that the predicted surge for late Autumn and Winter is beginning to show up. Hospitals in border states are reaching capacity due do this surge. If you are having symptoms, please get tested. If COVID continues to rise, the State of Washington may consider and have no other choice then to implement counter measures to tap it back down as we have recently seen from the Governor. I encourage everyone not to be complacent. Continue wearing masks. Below is a link to King County that provides additional information and guidelines on masks to remind us on what is appropriate mask protection.

As we spend more time indoors, there are recommended ways to reduce the risk from the Department of Seattle/King County Public Health. They suggest to reduce the number of people you’re around as much as possible and the time spent around others indoors.  Stay as far apart as possible, even with masks on.  Remember, the guidance is not “mask up OR stay 6 feet or more of distance.” Rather, the safer thing to do is to wear a mask AND stay 6 feet or more apart from others.

The question of masks and wearing them is another area that Public Health provides additional suggestions.

      • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
      • Be secured with ties or ear loops
      • Include multiple layers of fabric
      • Allow for breathing without restriction
      • Be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

Thank you to every citizen as we continue to navigate through so many issues related to COVID.

Have a very Happy and Safe Holiday season.
